Emmanuel Episcopal Church strives to honor God by nurturing the spirit and ministering to God's people.
There are a number of pastoral care ministries at Emmanuel that reach out to people in need. If you or someone you know could use a helping hand or just a sympathetic ear, please call one of the contact people listed below. If you can’t get through call the chair of the Pastoral Care Commission or the Church office. The phone numbers appear at the bottom of the page.
If you would like to participate in one of the ministries a little or a lot, you would be most welcome. We need you.
Do you need a prepared meal delivered to your home?
The Agape Meals Ministry can arrange that. The word “agape” is mentioned several times in the New Testament and refers to the love of God or Christ or the love of Christians for each other. This is what the Agape Meals Ministry tries to do. It reaches out to those in need by sharing God’s love with them in the form of prepared meals. Call Beverly Sligh, 706-353-3411.
Do you need a ride to an appointment or the grocery store?
The Charioteers are ready to help you. There are drivers ready to go. Please call Bob Bowen, Chair, 706-543-6187.
Do you know someone who could use our prayers?
A group of prayer ministers are committed to pray daily for those on the Sunday Prayer list and any others who request prayers. Call Elaine Carlton 706-353-8017.
Do you need loving support and a trained ear?
Stephen Ministers, while not trained to take the place of mental health professionals, medical doctors, or clergy, have been trained in care-giving skills that can help you find your way through a problem with loving support and a listening ear. Confidentiality is vital and required of them. They meet twice a month for ongoing training. If you are experiencing the loss of a loved one, divorce, hospitalization, chronic or terminal illness, loneliness, discouragement, unemployment, aging, relocation, recovery from an accident, or any other situation where you need support, a Stephen Minister can walk with you during weekly visits lasting about an hour and by phone as necessary between visits. The clergy can put you in touch with a Stephen Minister or you can call Polly Connerat, 706-769-5601 or Carol Jones, 706- 613-1948.
If for some reason you cannot get through to one of the contacts cited above, please call Anne Brightwell who chairs the Pastoral Care Commission, or Father Robert who is our Rector.
