Spiritual Formation

Formation Overview

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom: Enlighten by your Holy Spirit those who teach and those who learn that, rejoicing in the knowledge of your truth, they may worship you and serve you from generation to generation; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. BCP, Collect for Various Occasions #23

Whether we say Christian Education, Christian Formation, Spiritual Formation, or Faith Formation, we are speaking of the way we help our children and one another grow into our baptismal covenant. How do we learn to live out our faith on a daily basis? In the Episcopal Church we explore the cornerstones of our faith: Scripture, tradition, and reason. All age groups are involved.

There are many opportunities at Emmanuel, and the decision to post the programs under the heading of Formation, Worship or Youth is often not clear. What has been done on this web site is to group the programs based on when the activity takes place.

Please note that calendars for children, youth, and adult activities are posted on this site under the "Schedules" tab in the main menu at the top of this page, or just use this link: Schedules.

On the Worship page, activities taking place during the 10:30 service are described. These include the Nursery and Children's Liturgy.

On the Youth page, the activities of Emmanuel's Youth Group are described. The Youth Group is called the EYC, which is short for Episcopal Youth Community.

On this, the Formation page, activities during the Christian Education period (9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.) are presented. Some of the adult activities take place other times of the day and week.

You can use the menu at the left to select the group that interests you. Here is what you will find when you make a choice.

Children (Birth through grade 5): Nursery, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, and Sunday School.

Youth (Grades 6-12): Rite 13, Journey to Adulthood, Young Adults in Church

Adults: Sunday Forum, Men of Emmanuel, Natural Spirituality, Monday Morning Bible Study Group
