-August 15 (Sunday):  Acolyte Appreciation & Kickoff Luncheon (rising 5th-graders & up)

-August 21 (Saturday):  EYC Kickoff Bash @ Lake Hartwell (all 6th-12th)

AUTOMATIC BANK DRAFTS - Several parishioners have shown interest in having their giving automatically deducted from their account.  This way whether they are in town or out of town their giving stays on track and no one has to remember to write a check. The Church is now set up to provide this service to the parishioners.  It’s easy, just fill out and sign one form, attach a voided check from the account you wish to be debited and turn into the office or put in Karen Holland’s mailbox. The forms are located on the table in the hall outside of Melissa’s office.  If you have any questions, please contact Karen Holland by phone 706-543-1294 ext. 205 or email at finance@emmanuelathens.org

Update on the Work of the Ad Hoc Planning Committee

At its monthly meeting in April 2009 the Vestry created an Ad Hoc Planning Committee. The mandate of this committee is to take the results and momentum generated by our winter 2009 capital campaign feasibility study and craft ways for Emmanuel both to move forward on maintenance and repairs of our current campus and to flesh out the plan for Emmanuel’s future building and renovation. The table below is intended to chart our progress as we move through this process; it will be updated regularly on the website in order to keep you informed of our work. Table and more.

FAITH FORMATION – Sunday, August 1st

VESTRY FORUM followed by Adult Ed. – Common Room

IHN UPDATES - Emmanuel -IHN will host guest families at our Youth Center located next to the Thrift Center from August 8-15.  We welcome new and returning volunteers! Please contact Vince Howard (rvince@aol.com) or 706.224.4911 with questions or to volunteer for the first time. Help is needed in setup, van driving and meal preparation, as well as, evening, weekend and overnight hosting. Thanks for your continued support of this ministry.

ALL COMMISSION CHAIRS MEETING to be held on Sunday, September 22nd after the 10:30 am service in the Common Room. Brief discussion on 2010 preparation for the Ministry Fair.

(THANKS and) WELCOME, ACOLYTES! Sunday, August 15, immediately following the 10:30 liturgy, The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is sponsoring a luncheon-cookout in the Common Rm. to welcome back and offer thanks to veteran acolytes — adults and youth – and give a chance for others to learn about opportunities for service. New 5th-graders and middle-schoolers are especially encouraged to come out! We'll talk briefly about the crucial role of acolytes in our worship and then have some fun & games, acolyte-style. Gotta have a headcount for food, so RSVP to John Albright @ albright301@gmail.com!

EYC KICKOFF OUTING set for SATURDAY Aug. 21: All 6th-12th grade youth, plan now to join us for a full afternoon of water-based goofing off, courtesy of the Ball family, at their vacation home on Lake Hartwell - and bring a friend or two! There'll be swimming, canoeing, tubing, and just hanging out & catching up on summer stories. The bus (yes, the new bus!) will leave Emmanuel by 10:30 a.m. Show's over after Compline @ 7:15, so we'll return at 8:30 p.m. Bring your own sack lunch, then for supper enjoy a lakeside cookout. If you own a life jacket, bring it so we'll have enough. Permission & waiver form required for each person (office hallway table, or see Fr. Edwin on the day). This is the only place to be on Aug. 21st: see you there!

NEWS UPDATE

What can you do?  What are other Episcopalians doing? Where can you find the latest news?

Here’s how you can help today:

1. Pray for people devastated by the earthquake.

2. Give to help those most impacted.

Our Bishop, Neil Alexander, wrote: “In this emergency, our best response as a diocese, as parishes and as individuals is take a few minutes to contribute to Episcopal Relief and Development, the church's agency already at work in Haiti. All of your dollars will go directly to helping the Haitian people. To give now through ERD's secure website, click here. You'll also find information below for mailing your checks and giving over the phone.”

Make a contribution and get news on the Episcopal Relief and Development website.

The Diocese of Atlanta website has a special page devoted to Haiti.
